Greek Design

In the spirit of Greek Week, I'd like to take you all on a journey. Greece (so I thought and maybe you did too) is so far out of the loop when it comes to trends we follow here in the United States. It almost seems like none of the huge fashion designers are Greek and that maybe there aren't any famous Greek fashion designers. Well, friends I'm here to prove us both wrong. Here are a few examples of the internationality of Greek designers.

1. Vrettos Vrettakos

This fabulous Greek designer created a piece worn by none other than Beyonce on her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour.

2. Mary Katrantzou

Katrantzou (Greek born, London trained) has been showing her work in London's Fashion Week since 2008 and is a huge hit among big stars for the unique patterns she creates.

3. James Galanos

Galanos is an American designer of Greek-born parents who takes his Greek upbringing to his work. All his designs are special order for each customer and he is one of the top couturiers of the 20th century for that reason. He specializes in vintage dresses.

4. Sophia Kokosalaki

Although not completely viral among celebrity brides, this designer has a knack for updating dress styles for the modern bride.

5. Panos Papadopoulos

Panos Papadopoulos is the founder and designer of Panos Emporio, the largest swimwear provider of Scandanavia. He is known as the 'bathing suit king'.

Your assignment for tonight is to brush up on your Greek, then brush up on your Greek designers. There is so much fashion you've never heard of on the other side of the world.. I think it's time we all go exploring
